The famous comedian and television personality Joan Rivers died during a routine endoscopy procedure in 2014. The allegations were that the doctors performed a procedure on her vocal cords which had not been discussed or consented to by her or the family. Joan Rivers sustained a lack of oxygen to her brain and died.
There was also unprofessional conduct by the doctors who took “selfies” while she was under anesthesia.
The settlement terms are confidential but it has been reported to be multi-millions.
Endoscopy errors can be from colonoscopies or upper endoscopies. Oxygen deprivation or damage to internal organs can occur.
