ERB’S PALSY
Erb’s Palsy is an injury to an arm that can occur to a baby during birth. It usually happens when the baby’s head comes out during delivery, but the baby’s shoulder gets stuck. The doctor tries to deliver the baby by pulling on the baby’s head. This pulling stretches the nerves that run from the baby’s neck down into an arm. The result can be permanently damaged nerves.
An arm injured by Erb’s Palsy is often shorter and smaller than the other arm. It also can be limited in its use. For instance, the arm may not be able to carry things or reach overhead for items.
