In medical malpractice cases in Maryland, in order to prove the case, a doctor will have to come to court to testify that malpractice occurred. In our State, the general rule is that a doctor has to be in the specialty of medicine applicable to the case. For example, if the case is about an allegation an against an obgyn, another obgyn will be retained to testify. This is known as an expert witness.  Medical expert witnesses, based upon their training, education, and experience, are allowed to express medical opinions.

In some cases, multiple expert witnesses may be needed to give opinions, especially in cases where malpractice occurred by different specialties.

That is why hiring a lawyer who has experience is so important. At our firm, we consult with well qualified medical doctors from all over the country in all different specialties. We are constantly updating our database.  In medical malpractice cases, medical experts are not optional. Without a medical expert, your case cannot move forward.
