Maryland Appeals Court Holds That Suit Can Be Brought Against Private Ambulance Company

In a decision last week by Maryland’s Court of Special Appeals, the Court was faced with the issue as to whether Maryland law precluded a lawsuit against TransCare, a private ambulance company.

Under Maryland law, firefighters and rescue operators employed by municipalities are immune from suit and are protected by the Maryland Fire and Rescue Act.

In this case, TransCare argued that this protection should also apply to private companies. The Court disagreed with TransCare and decided that private ambulance companies are not protected under Maryland law.

$7.2 Million Verdict Reported For Bus Accident

A jury has awarded $7.2 Million to a passenger in a bus accident. The driver was using a cell phone while driving on an icy road. He lost control of the bus and it flipped over. The passenger suffered head, back and neck injuries and will need surgery.
